KFC Kooragang approached Skelcon in early November 2019 with a vision to have a KFC restaurant, something the area was screaming out for, fit out and trading prior to Christmas 2019. With a timeline consisting of a limited 24 working days, the turnaround to achieve this vision was extremely tight. Being given the opportunity to work on a project as iconic as a KFC, our Skelcon team were more than happy to take on this challenge.

The project scope called for both internal and external retrofit and fitout. Internally, the scope consisted of a complete strip out of the existing kitchen, reconfiguration for the new restaurant equipment as well as a new front of house service counter and dining area. Externally the works included new preview and menu boards, external cladding, feature tile nib wall as well as classic KFC signage and colour palate. In addition to this, a small section of unused dining room space was reconfigured to form a separate tenancy, allowing for future leasing to a small bakery business.

During a typically busy construction industry season, Skelcon were able to fulfil the brief and meet the timeline due to our established working relationship with our reliable subcontractors and excellent management by the project team. With signage and the external features of the building iconic and branded, the restaurant has become a prominent landmark that will provide both locals travellers alike, a place to stop or drive-thru and enjoy some classic Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The Client was extremely happy with the quick turnaround and overall quality of work, especially considering the extent of work and minimal construction period. We are pleased that, as a result of this, they are looking forward to involving us in future store refurbishments on the horizon.
