Our partnership with Newcastle Health Enterprise began in April 2023, when we were engaged to explore the potential of transforming a former two-storey bank into a modern healthcare facility.
With limited natural light, restricted access, and even a bank vault, the site came with its challenges—but also great potential. Through a series of concept layouts, the vision quickly took shape.
With approximately 70% of future patients expected to be children, the design was centred around creating a positive and engaging experience for families. Our clients had a clear goal: to build a space that inspires confidence, encourages play, and supports a sense of calm throughout the patient journey.
Skelcon provided end-to-end design, construction, and joinery services in collaboration with Element Joinery across a 23-week program. The full interior fit-out included a new roof, with the building’s narrow footprint and dual entry points guiding the spatial flow. A new entrance from Pearson Street was introduced to offer a more peaceful arrival experience.
