With plans to expand their services to new age-groups, early education and pre-school facility Montessori approached us to construct their new children’s centre in alignment with the unique environment they are famous for.
Montessori has a long history of taking a unique approach to early education for children aged six months - 5 years. The task of constructing a children centre fitout for the new facility in Kotara, as part of their expansion plans, required more consideration to details in terms of aligning with the holistic teaching approach Montessori is known for. Everything from colour and dimensions to layout all required consideration beyond client preferences and functionality. Each internal decision was created to nurture an overall educational purpose.
The construction of the 84 place children’s centre was constructed over two stages in a 12 month period, with a cost of $1.8 million. The project consisted of four new rooms to personally cater to the different age groups of the children, an outdoor undercover activities area, a playground and staff offices and amenities. The build was completed adjacent to the existing operating childcare, meaning that additional care needed to be taken to ensure the safety of the children during construction was always highest priority.
Due to great organisation from both us and our client, we encountered very few hurdles in finishing this construction project and Montessori are beyond pleased with the result. It was a pleasure to work with a company so dedicated to the service they provide, and so decisive about what they needed and why they needed it.
When working on a space that has a pre-existing reputation for excellence, particularly when that expectation is centred on the health, education and wellbeing of children, the stakes are high. But, we were excited to take on the challenge and were able to deliver a quality result.
“A truly amazing space!”
When the project was completed, we were proud of the job we’d done. Montessori worked with us to ensure their educational goals aligned with our vision for them, and it became a very synchronised process. This helped ensure they were proud to reveal it to parents and children alike.
Who better describe their new space than Montessori:
“Our new centre is a truly amazing space! The centre has been meticulously designed to flow around our beautiful natural outdoor environment. Classrooms are very open with an abundance of natural light, there is a seamless flow between inside and outside, the colour palette is soothing and blends perfectly with our natural environment.”
Crafting considered spaces for child education
Montessori is positioned as much more than just a childcare centre, and we were hyper aware of this during the construction process. We conduct all work with the utmost care and consideration to client needs, go above and beyond construction guideline best practice standards and work tirelessly to ensure our clients are happy with the end result. Skelcons extensive experience in the Childcare and Education sectors allows us to have a clear understanding of standards, rules and regulations in place in NSW. For this project though, there were many more factors to consider and it was a great experience for us as much as it was a quality end result for Montessori. Learning to work through a different lense, understanding that every angle had a larger purpose, was unique to this project.
We are thrilled to be part of a project that encourages the healthy growth of children in a very considered space as they evolve in preparation for school years.
